Since 1973, Greater Portland Christian School has been fulfilling its mission provide a distinctively Christian education which complements the home and church, brings Biblical perspective to every subject, and helps parents prepare their children for a God-glorifying life. Our vision is to provide an outstanding spiritual and educational environment where, working with Christian families and churches, students will be thoroughly prepared to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.
Development at GPCS exists to cultivate and establish relationships based on trust and stewardship, with those who desire to partner with us, to support and advance the mission of Greater Portland Christian School, by the giving of their time, talents and treasures.
Financial Support
Greater Portland Christian School has been blessed by generous giving through our annual fund, gifts to our scholarship fund, and special project funds (i.e. audio visual equipment, computers, and athletic equipment). There are three primary areas in which you can financially support GPCS:
Annual Giving
Your annual gift creates a revenue stream that will provide flexibility to the budget to impact many of the areas of the school you care about. These areas range from salaries, programming, maintenance and upkeep to debt reduction. A strong Annual Fund will ensure our financial long-term health.
Gifts to the GPCS
Tuition Assistance Program
Your generous financial aid can
allow students whose families may not be able to afford full tuition an opportunity for a Christian school education.
Ways to Give
Planned Gifts & Bequests
No matter how you’ve been enriched by GPCS, you can leave your own enduring imprint on the school through a planned gift. It can pay dividends that leave tomorrow’s GPCS a better place for students, for faculty, and for the world. There’s a planned gift to suit every circumstance. Each giving strategy has distinct benefits for you and for the school. Our Development Department can guide you through the available choices, and help you increase your legacy.
A bequest is one of the simplest ways to provide for those you care about. Once you have provided for the people you love, you may wish to consider a bequest to Greater Portland Christian School. Charitable bequests find a place in the wills of many who wish to lend support well into the future. A gift through your will to GPCS will be a thoughtful way to leave an enduring impact on the school and on our students - the Christian leaders of tomorrow. There are many types of planned giving, the most common of which are:
• Simple bequests from a will or living trust
• Charitable gift annuities
• Charitable trusts
• Gifts of life insurance, real estate and retirement funds
• Equities
• Pooled income funds
Planned gifts can be immediate but most often are deferred, usually from a donor’s assets rather than their income. By far, the most common is the straightforward bequest. You can list Greater Portland Christian School as either a direct beneficiary of a set amount of money, a specific asset, or a percentage of your estate. An individual may designate that a bequest be used for general purposes or to support a specific program.
The following is a simple suggestion for such a bequest: "I give and bequeath to the Greater Portland Christian School, a not for profit educational institution, with its principal offices presently located at 1338 Broadway, South Portland, Maine the sum of $_______________ to be used for the accomplishment of its mission." If you plan to make a charitable gift by will, please think it through carefully. Then meet with your attorney to discuss and update your will.
Matching Gifts
You may be able to double (or even triple!) your gift. More than 15,000 companies and subsidiaries have a program that matches gifts made to support education. To find out if your employer has a matching gift program, please contact your Human Resources Department. If your employer will match your gift, please request a matching gift form from your employer and submit your claim, completed and signed, with your gift to the address below: GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 1338 Broadway South Portland, ME 04106 Attn: Development Department.
You may also submit your claim online if your employer has an online matching gift claim form via their internet or intranet. Matching gifts are directed to the same designation as your original gift, unless your employer dictates otherwise. The Development Department will recognize you for the total amount.
Pledges
Think of a pledge as a gift with a payment plan. Pledges give donors the option to make payments toward a gift over time. Pledges are preferred by many donors who wish to make a big impact at GPCS, but seek the more flexible approach of spreading payments over a predetermined span. To set up a pledge download our donation form and return to: GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 1338 Broadway South Portland, ME 04106 Attn: Development Department.
Memorial/Honorary Gifts
Memorial gifts are a special way to honor a friend or loved one who has passed away. By supporting the school, these gifts ensure a legacy for the deceased that extends far into the future. Any type of gift can be designated as a memorial gift. For obituary announcements, we suggest the following language, which can be tailored to your needs:
"Memorial contributions may be made through the Development Department at Greater Portland Christian School. Please direct your contributions to (fund of your choice) in memory of (the name of your friend or loved one). Send gifts to Greater Portland Christian School, 1338 Broadway, South Portland, ME 04106."
Honorary gifts are a meaningful way to pay tribute to a living person. It may honor a special occasion or achievement, or merely acknowledge the honoree’s importance in your life. Any type of gift can be designated as an honorary gift. Complete the donation form and include with your gift. |
