This year I traveled to Iraq with a soldier, David DeRienzo, from Greater Portland Christian School's class of 2000. The First Graders are also making a book! Some of the pictures below were taken when David DeRienzo was on leave from Iraq and traveled over Europe. You will see pictures of me in Paris, Italy, and more! Can you find me in each picture?
Here's what David DeRienzo writes:
"I have actually, to this point, left out a very key factor in what
made my 2 week leave such a great success. Do you remember from my last
letter I told you about the GPCS 1st graders sending me their teddy bear
named Snuggly? Well, it came along to Europe with me and was certainly the
center of attention more often than not. If you ever get a chance to look
at my pictures you will see the bear is all over the place. Someone that
didn't know the history of the bear and my attachment to it would probably
find all the pictures a little unbearable, but I think that if you just bear
with me you will come to see the value of it. To be honest, it was actually
the bear's idea to go to Europe in the first place. Iraq was the only place
it had been besides Maine and was beginning to develop a very pessimistic
outlook on the world. Well, Snuggly was very grateful for the opportunity
to go and we both promise to go back to the 1st graders in the spring and
tell them all about it. Ha, I should say though, I did temporarily change
Snuggly's name to Vito while we were in Italy. I thought it would improve
my chances with the local female population if I introduced the bear in more
of a masculine Italian sort of way. But yet again, the D man struck out!
Serves me right I guess for trying to use a 1st grade class teddy bear to
meet women in Italy! women in Italy!"
